Abstract

Aethaloessa calidalis (Guenée, 1854) is a moth belonging to the family Crambidae, distributed across various states of India, yet it has remained unreported from Chhattisgarh. During a nocturnal light-trap survey at Semra Village, Dhamtari district, Chhattisgarh, one adult of this species was documented and identified using its distinctive orange-yellow wing patches, dark marginal shading, and orange abdomen with a black tip, matching published descriptions and photographic references. This constitutes the first state record of Aethaloessa calidalis from Chhattisgarh and extends its known distribution into central India. The finding highlights the value of continued moth monitoring to improve the state’s moth inventories.
