New record of the Malayan Porcupine (Rodentia: Hystricidae: Hystrix brachyura Linnaeus, 1758) in Tripura, India

First confirmed evidence of the Malayan Porcupine Hystrix brachyura from Sepahijala Wildlife Sanctuary and the Clouded Leopard National Park, Tripura, India, is documented in the study. The findings were between 12–22 February 2024, wherein 14 camera traps were deployed across eight camera-trap stations. Two trap stations documented H. brachyura, yielding five independent captures represented by 20 images. This marks the first documented photographic evidence of the species from a protected area in Tripura, which shall lead to bridging gaps in its recorded distribution in northeastern India.
