Dahanukar et al. (2016: pp. 9234) made available the genus name Walkerana (ZooBank id: urn:lsid:zoobank.org:act:1A088397-8F05-4339-8696-A50093E88CD5; type species: Ixalus diplostictus Günther, 1876: 574, Pl. 63 fig. C) within the family Ranixalidae for the monophyletic group with reduced webbing endemic to the Western Ghats of India south of the Palghat gap. We were unaware that this name was preoccupied by Walkerana Otte & Perez-Gelabert in Otte (2009), under Insecta: Orthoptera: Gryllidae. As a result, a replacement name for this genus of leaping frogs becomes necessary. Here we propose Sallywalkerana gen. nov. as the replacement name for Walkerana Dahanukar, Modak, Krutha, Nameer, Padhye & Molur, 2016.

Sallywalkerana gen. nov.

urn:lsid:zoobank.org:act:E6BC88B0-DA5C-43CE-BC6B-A796B0524A89

Type species: Ixalus diplostictus Günther, 1876: 574, Pl. 63 fig. C.

Diagnosis for the genus is same as for Walkerana Dahanukar, Modak, Krutha, Nameer, Padhye & Molur, 2016 (pp. 9234). The replacement generic name is a combination of Sally Walker’s name and the Latin name for frogs, Rana, and is used as a noun.

Included species: Sallywalkerana diplosticta (Günther, 1876) comb. nov., S. leptodactyla (Boulenger, 1882) comb. nov., S. phrynoderma (Boulenger, 1882) comb. nov.
