Byrsax cornutus is a rare darkling beetle associated with the fruiting bodies of bracket fungi. Cryptic brownish-grey coloration of adults that matches the color of their host bracket fungus Ganoderma applanatum and secretive habits lead them to be often overlooked by collectors. A first record and a detailed description of B. cornutus from the Western Ghats, notes on its habits and distribution and key to the two Indian species of Byrsax are provided
